When God gives you a plan…and you place your faith in Him…doors open. The doors of The Ribbon Box cakery and gift shop opened on November 15, 2008. Denene and I became friends 7 years ago while working at Creekview Intermediate School. We have always felt that God had a plan for our friendship. Six years later, while we were sharing a desk in the school office, God began to reveal his plan to us. We thought up lots of different business ideas but it always came back to the cakery and gift shop. Denene had been decorating cakes for her family and friends for 20 years. Looking back on all my job experiences it made us realize that God had been preparing us both for this adventure all of our lives. It was the last day of school and we went to Starbucks to celebrate the beginning of summer vacation. It was then that we decided to approach our husbands with our business idea. Now, the Lord had been working in their hearts too. Without hesitation both guys encouraged us to “Go for it!” Now, this meant, the two of us were going to give up our incomes and start a business with no prior experience. What a leap of faith. There is nothing more empowering than having your spouse believe in you…and wow, have Lenny and Dan believed and supported the both of us. The next day (June 6, 2008) our adventure began! We prayed for God’s guidance and direction each morning. We spent the summer traveling and simply learning. Learning about permits, zoning laws, visiting bakeries and searching for the perfect location. We felt God’s presence every step of the way. In every office we entered, one of us knew someone their to help us move through the process with ease. We just can’t say enough nice things about the community of Marysville. Everyone worked together to make our Grand Opening a reality. Putting all the pieces together to “start up” The Ribbon Box was the most exciting and fun time of our lives. Having the support of our husbands, sons, parents and friends has been a Gift to the both of us. We believe that God opened the doors and our families gave us the courage to walk through them. The best part of The Ribbon Box is meeting new people. It is a joy to be a small part of our customers’ celebrations. When a customer orders a special cake…something important is happening in their lives and people love to share their stories with us. Whether it is watching a customer find the perfect treasure in the gift shop or, watching their faces light up at the aroma that greets them at the door, it is a happy place to be! Stepping out in faith is not always easy…we just keep “looking up” for direction. We do not know God’s plan for our cakery, but we are along for the ride wherever He takes us.
